One week following the February National Affairs and Legislative Meeting (NAL) attendance by two members of North Suffolk Garden Club, Program Chair Barbara Gray facilitated a lecture at Emma Clark Library by a dynamo conservation advocate, Adrienne Esposito, executive director of the Citizens Campaign for the Environment.
NAL attendees Kathleen Mich, NSGC conservation chair, and Jennifer Lawrence, NSGC president, had just reported on GCA’s goal for members to contact their legislators and voice their environmental concerns. Congressman Lee Zeldin, a speaker at the 2017 NAL meeting, pledged to fight for funding to restore the Long Island Sound and Natural Estuary Program. Ms. Esposito explained that one email to a congressman, equates to 300 constituent voices. That call to action motivated the group to email legislators immediately.
